James Irving Marshall

August 22, 1928 — April 8, 2019

Bishop James Marshall, age 90, of Cleveland, departed this life on Monday morning, April 8, 2019 at his residence. Born on August 22, 1928, in Patterson, Virginia, to the late Daniel Webster and Molly Gardner Marshall, he was ordained for over 65 years in the Church of God and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

James came to Cleveland to attend Lee College where he met and married June Glover who also attended Lee. Bishop Marshall pastored several area churches through the years and spent .30 years in active chaplain duties at various local hospitals and nursing homes. He was a painter by vocational trade skills.

He was an artist and Church history enthusiast collecting and recording hundreds of documents regarding Church of God history and heritage. Many people have paintings and minatures and art pieces created by Bishop Marshall. He loved life and always lived it with such joy and color.

 In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Ira Marshall, Paul Marshall, Mary Whalen, and Elvanee Southerland.

 He is survived by his second wife, Delores Jones Marshall of Cleveland; children, Jeannie (Bill) Trew of Ocoee; Colonel James Alan Marshall USAF(Retired) (Kendra);grandchildren, Daniel Cummings of Ocoee, Carrie (Mike) Inglis of Chattanooga, Nolan Marshall, and Joshua Marshall; great grandkids, Sarah Branum and Kurt Inglis. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.

A Celebration of Life and Home going for Bishop James Irwing Marshall will be held at 7p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 in the main sanctuary at North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Mark Williams officiating.

A Private graveside will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

 The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at the church.
