Eugene Clifton Weaver Jr., born December 21, 1942, died on August 8, 2022, age 79, at his group home maintained by Life Bridges in Cleveland, TN. Clifton was the son of Eugene C. Weaver Sr. and Norma Blankenship Weaver Stone (both deceased). Clifton is survived by his only sister, Vickie Batzka, two nieces, Devan Watson (Blake Mills) and Diana Hodges-Batzka (John Hodges) as well as a great nephew, Gareth Watson-Mills. There are also numerous cousins in Cleveland and elsewhere who were blessed by Clifton being a part of the family.
Clifton was born and lived in Cleveland most of his life, where he would greet everyone, friend and stranger, with a smile, hearty handshake, and a caring, genuine “Well hey, how you doin?” Clifton especially loved to visit his friends at Cracker Barrel, Walmart, and Cleveland Mall. At some point, he probably rode with half of Cleveland after asking for a ride. Clifton loved God and loved church. He was a member and deacon at his home church, First Christian Church. He also regularly attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church, First Baptist Church, and several Church of God churches for community, food, and the music that he loved. Clifton loved people and remembered many of them from his childhood. Clifton worked at a sheltered workshop until he was in his early 70’s before he reluctantly retired. He has been resident at Life Bridges since 2010, where he was well cared for and loved. Hospice of Chattanooga has also been caring for him since early 2022.
Clifton’s services will be at Serenity of Cleveland Funeral Home. Services will be on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, with visitation from 1-3, followed immediately by a memorial service. All of Clifton’s friends are invited to celebrate his life among you.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Life Bridges Inc.; First Christian Church of Cleveland or Hospice of Chattanooga, all of whom cared for Clifton’s body and soul. The family would also like to express appreciation to all of Cleveland who loved, enjoyed, transported and spent time with Clifton through his life. It truly takes a village to care for special people and you have done that for him.
