Clarence E. Montgomery, 87, of Cleveland passed away on Tuesday July 4, 2023 in a local healthcare facility. He was a lifelong resident of Cleveland. He formerly attended Echoes of Mercy Baptist Church. He retired from Cooke’s Manufacturing after 20 years of employment with the company. He also worked as a small engine mechanic. He loved gospel music, and playing his guitar. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hiking, hunting, and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard Montgomery and Bonnie Sigler Montgomery; brother Clifford Montgomery; sister Hazel Jones Cox; granddaughter Mandy Rutledge; great grandson Jayce Shipley; and cousin Willard Gold.
Survivors include his daughters Janice Setters of Cleveland, June Montgomery Andersen her husband Berry of Cleveland, Claudine and Randell Rutledge of Georgia; grandchildren Jeffery Setters, Christopher Setters, Chad and Haley Shipley, Jennifer Shipley all of Cleveland, Montana Painter of Georgia; 13 great grandchildren; sisters Frances Stiles of McCaysville, GA, Nillie Crowe of Cleveland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside Service will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 8, 2023. The Reverend Floyd Boggess will officiate the service and June Andersen will deliver a eulogy. Austin Shipley, Chad Shipley, Jeffery Setters, Christopher Setters, Randel Rutledge, and Berry Andersen will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends, Saturday July 8 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
