Floyd L Newman

Floyd  Newman, age 86, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2016.  He was born in McMinn County to the late Horace & Lula Kelly Newman on September 24, 1929, and spent the majority of his life in the Delano Community and attended the Coghill Baptist Church.

Floyd retired from Duracell after 25+ years of service as a maintenance mechanic.  He was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing and spending time with family. 

He is preceded in death by parents; wife, Bobbie Jean Smith Newman;  seven siblings, J.L. Newman, Kenneth Newman, H.R. Newman, Alfred Newman, Barbara Franks, Patsy Manning,  Rethel “Dusty” Newman.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Christy of Delano; two grandchildren, Michael  (Scarlet) Poteet of Etowah,  and Jeana Savage of Mississippi;  two great grandchildren, Bryar Morgan and Dusty Savage;  and one brother, Wendell “Little Dusty” Newman of Etowah.   Several nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Joe Hatcher officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mars Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with family and friends serving as pall bearers.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude services.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
