William Jackson Snider

December 19, 1938 — November 10, 2016

William Jackson “Jack” Snider, age 77 of Etowah, passed away on Thursday morning, November 10, 2016 at his residence. He was born on December 19, 1938 in Vonore to the late Worth and Eva Mae Hamby Snider.

 Jack served in the Tennessee National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1960. He graduated from McMinn County High School in 1959 and went on to attend Carson Newman College and the University of Tennessee where he played football. He was a renown Golden Glove fighter in the area for many years and coached many young boxers on Golden Glove teams in Athens and Chattanooga. Jack worked as an engineer for the EPA and retired in 1990.  He was an avid golfer and Tennessee Volunteer fan and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Dawn Snider Heinz; and a sister Rosie Hughes.

Jack is survived by his wife , Nancy Peck Snider of Etowah; son, Rocky Jack Snider of Etowah; grandchildren, Zachary Heinz, Jessica Heinz and Grace Heinz of Marietta, Georgia, Jonathan Plummer and wife Megan of Newnan, Georgia; great-grandson, Asa Jackson Monroe Plummer; sisters, Charlotte Teague of Alcoa; Ruby Coleman of Athens, Nini Brown and husband David of Athens, and Kathryn and husband Pete Reed of The Villages, FL; brothers, Pete Snider  and Bert Snider of Chattanooga and Dan Snider and wife JoAnn Snider of Murfreesboro; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Glass of Etowah, Josephine Brown ,  Marjorie Brackett  and Husband Rueben of Etowah; and brother –in-law, Richard Peck of Etowah. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

 A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
