James Anthony Armstrong

James Anthony “Tony” Armstrong, age 43, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday morning, November 13, 2016 at his residence.  Born on May 24, 1973 in McMinn County, he spent a majority of his life in Marietta, Georgia before moving to Chattanooga in 2012. Tony loved horses and music; enjoyed carpentry and climbing trees; and his humor and love for his family and friends filled the room each and every time. He was of the Methodist faith.

 He was preceded in death by his father, James Albert Armstrong, Jr ; sister, Jessie Amber Armstrong; maternal grandparents, Mattie Sue and Bill Long; and paternal grandparents, James and Beulah Armstrong.

Tony is survived by his wife, Lisa Hickman Armstrong of Chattanooga; mother, Susan Long Crawford and husband Lee of Canton, Georgia;four step-children Amberly & Tyler, Makayla & Lee, Chansler & Tyree and Tyler Williamson; three step-grandchildren, Harlee Zane Williamson, Tyson Darryl Young and Aleeia Faith Young; sisters, Kellie Armstrong of Plainville, Georgia, and Jamie Raine Armstrong-Evans and husband Jason of Jacksonville, Florida; and brother, Jeffrey Allen Armstrong of Nashville. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and numerous good friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life and Home going for Tony Armstrong will be held at 1p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with the Reverend David Hoskins and Reverend Tyler Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Mars Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with Scott McCullough, Jamie Headrick, Jeff Armstrong, Tony Cook, William Hickman, and Hoyt Standridge serving as active pallbearers and Chuck Bickell, Lee Crawford, and Harlee Williamson serving as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.

The family will receive friends from 4-8p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
