George William Carver

Mr. George “G.W.” Carver, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Tennova Healthcare in Cleveland.  He was born in Polk County, TN and spent the majority of his life in Polk County.  He was a member of Chestuee Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the Democratic Party; and he was retired from Bowater Corporation after 33 years and G.W. served as Union President and a Representative of Local 653 of the Paper Workers Union.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Moody Warren Carver and Stella Grace Clark.

 G.W. is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jo Carver of Calhoun; eight children and spouses, Kathy Carver Barber of Cleveland, Debbie (Bennie) Albritton of Calhoun, Vicky Carver of Cleveland, Anita Carver of Cleveland, Christy (Joe) Sears of Calhoun, Karen Patterson of Cleveland, Casey (Stephanie) Carver of Benton, and Gary Patterson of Charleston;  fifteen grandchildren, Dakota “Cody” Carver, Coleton Sears, Catelyn “Catey” Carver, Sara Carver, Raven Martineaux, BreAnna Bivens, Drew Lockhart, Drake Lockhart, Amanda Szidiropulosz, Carissa Benton, Melissa Young, Kelly Sullivan, Brian Patterson, Kelly Mettis, and Kaylene Brooks; eighteen great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

 A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Etowah with Bro. Daniel Stewart and Bro. Gary Moates officiating.  Interment will follow in the Chestuee Cemetery.   Joe Sears, Charles Murphy, Chad Clark, Chris Clark, Drew Lockhart and Drake Lockhart will serve as pallbearers.  Dakota “Cody” Carver and Coleton Sears will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
