Opal Lois Long Suits, a resident of Cleveland, went to meet Jesus in her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Born in Ocoee, Tennessee in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Kate Samples Long and the late James Long. She was blessed with five sisters and two brothers, Mary Ramsey, Jewell Henderson, Pauline Ganis, Irene Harold, James Long, Jr. and August Long, all of whom she dearly loved and who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Suits, Jr. with whom she would have celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary this year. She is survived by one daughter, Katie Chastain of Amelia Island, Florida and two grandchildren, Laura Chastain and Aaron Chastain, who were the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves behind a niece, Faye Arnett of Forsyth, Georgia, two nephews, Sam Ramsey of Cleveland, and Johnny Harold of Jefferson, Georgia, and a special friend, Marilyn Nagel of Cleveland. Mrs. Suits especially enjoyed her friends at the North Cleveland Towers and the Senior Citizens Center.
Mrs. Suits graduated from Polk County High School and received a degree from McKenzie Business School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was employed at Hardwicks Woolen Mill and American Uniform until the early 1960s. She spent the remainder of her life being a housewife and mother. She attended Faith Memorial Church and was a member of Benton Station Baptist Church.
Grissom Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tennessee has been entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends at Grissom Funeral Home on Sunday, January 10, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m... A celebration of life will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jamie Work, pastor of Candies Creek Baptist Church, will be officiating. A private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.
